Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
