Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French headed south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose.
