Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps developed from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French headed down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
