Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A few acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps.
